Case study summary
We represented a 13-year-old child who had hit a police officer who was arresting her father. She regretted what happened and said that she just could not handle the situation. We helped the child apologise to the officer and the police dropped the case.
Case study
We were approached by a 13-year old and her family after she had been asked to attend a voluntary police interview.
On a previous day, the police had attended her house to arrest her father for separate offences. She was very upset when the police went to take her father away and reacted by shouting abusive comments at police and hitting the officers. This was something that our client acknowledged and really regretted.
Our specialist criminal defence lawyers negotiated with the police officers and persuaded them that giving our client a charge or a caution would have a big impact on her future. Instead, they agreed that if our client wrote an apology letter to the officers involved they would not take the case any further.
Our client was a child who had a difficult start in life. Getting a criminal record at her age would have made things more challenging for her. She was very happy that we were able to bring the case to a sensible resolution.
