Our client was shocked after his wife made allegations of domestic abuse and controlling behaviour after he ended their relationship. We fought these allegations at the police station stage and left the police with no choice but to drop the case.
Case study
We were instructed to represent a man who was upset and surprised after he had been arrested for a number of domestic allegations. Our client was wholly unknown to the police and had never been in trouble before. He had recently started working full-time as a fire Marshal and was very concerned that this ongoing case could affect his job.
He explained that the marriage was struggling and he was very unhappy. He thought that the right thing do was to end the relationship so that he and his wife could move on. His wife did not react to this well. She went to the police to make a number of false allegations, including assault and controlling behaviour.
Our client was shocked to hear this as he had never controlled his wife’s life and there was no evidence of any assaults. For example, she was alleging that he limited her access to money but a review of her own bank account would show that this was a false accusation.
In interview, our specialist criminal defence lawyers read out a written statement. This put forward our client’s strong defence without exposing a terrified man to the stress of police questioning. The police accepted our client’s defence and dropped the false accusations.
Our client was thrilled that he can carry on working and focus on building a new life.
