Case study summary

Our client was accused of harassing her neighbour. She had no police convictions and suffered from anxiety and was very worried about speaking to the police. We represented and advised her in her interview and following this, the investigation was closed within weeks.

Case study

Our client was a professional lady who had a dispute with her neighbours. She was contacted by the police and ask to attend a voluntary interview to in relation to an allegation of Harassment contrary to s.2 of the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

She suffered from severe anxiety and was extremely about having to attend a police interview under caution. She was also very worried about the impact this could have on her work if she was charged and the matter was taken to court.

She contacted our firm and quickly made the decision to instruct us to represent her. We contacted the investigating police officer straight away to ensure that arrangements were made for the interview to take place at a convenient time and date, We also made sure that we were provided with police information before the date of the interview so that we could discuss this in detail with our client.

We then drafted a carefully prepared statement which set out our client's version of events, so that she did not have to try and remember everything in the pressured atmosphere of a police interview. This was read out on her behalf in the interview, and within weeks, we were informed by the police that she would not be charged and the investigation was closed. Our client said that she felt a huge sense of relief and that she could move on without the stress of court proceedings or the fear of losing her job.
