Case study summary
Our client had become irate with police officers and threatened to throw a brick through the complainant's window. Our thorough preparation of the case resulted in our client receiving no criminal penalty.
Case study
Our client was a 28-year-old who was charged with being drunk and disorderly. She was accused of being intoxicated and becoming irate with police officers. She managed to run away from the officers, but she was then observed shouting at another member of the public who said that she had threatened to throw a brick through their window.
Our client admitted the offence although she could not remember exactly what had happened. She was a young woman who struggled with alcohol abuse as a result of her father's death and having been in an abusive relationship.
We represented our client at her police interview, and she confirmed that she also wanted us to represent her at the Magistrates' Court as she feared being sent to prison. She had previous convictions of a similar nature which greatly increased the chances of this happening. We obtained full instructions from her regarding her current circumstances and instructed a specialist barrister to represent her at court.
Our client received a conditional discharge which meant that she received no criminal penalty. She was relieved that we had been able to achieve the best possible outcome for her.
