Case study summary
Our client was accused, along with six others, of laundering the proceeds of crime arising from a cyber enhanced mandate fraud. After a five year investigation and 2 week trial at Portsmouth Crown Court, he was unanimously acquitted.
Case study
Our client was a businessman engaged in the buying, selling, letting and development of residential property and at one time also practiced as a licenced conveyancer. He was one of eight defendants originally charged with laundering the proceeds of crime arising from a cyber enabled mandate fraud. This led to over £100,000 intended for a racing company being diverted to an account belonging to an associate of our client, some of which was then transferred to one of our client's accounts. Thereafter, funds were transferred through our client's various personal and business accounts, before several transfers were made out of the accounts and a number of cash withdrawals were made.
Our expert defence lawyers considered and explained in forensic detail the transactions in and out of five of our client's accounts and called live evidence to demonstrate that the amount received into the initial account was expected for legitimate business dealings and that our client at no time acted dishonestly.
After a five year investigation, a year preparing the defence, and an eleven day trial, he was unanimously acquitted and able to finally piece his life back together.
