Case study
Our client was an elderly gentleman accused of raping his niece in the 1980s when she was a young child. She had later found out that our client had grandchildren and decided to report such incidents to the police 40+ years later.
Our client had no previous convictions and had never been involved with the police before. He instructed our specialist historic sexual offences solicitors and we represented him in interview. After careful consideration, we advanced a prepared statement on his behalf, denying any sexual contact with his niece.
After the interview, we remained in close contact with the police and Crown Prosecution Service who considered their duties in making charging decisions. They decided that there was no evidence against our client and ordered the police to close their investigation.
Our client was very pleased with this result. It was extremely daunting for him to be accused of such a henious crime, so many years later. He was very grateful for our assistance.
