Case study summary
Our murder solicitors defended a man accused of the murder of Kelvin Easton, in the so called 'unavenged killing' that led to the shooting of Mark Duggan by Police, sparking London Riots. We told the Old Bailey jury the case was based on rumour. They found our client Not Guilty.
Case study
Our client was Warren Allen, he had been in a night club when aspiring rapper Kelvin Easton was tragically stabbed to death. Everyone present had fled the scene and very few were prepared to talk to police.
The evidence against our client was flimsy, but surprisingly he was still charged and the case went to trial. We prepared everything thoroughly and we asked Courtenay Griffiths QC, the UK's first black QC, to be our client's barrister in court. He had only recently defended former world leader Charles Taylor, and had memorably questioned former supermodel Naomi Campbell. The barrister was the perfect choice for this case, and after his fantastic closing speech, the jury rapidly returned a Not Guilty verdict.
This case was under press restrictions while it was ongoing but it was later revealed to the public that this murder was in fact the so-called 'unavenged killing' that led to the Tottenham shooting of Mark Duggan by the Metropolitan Police, which in turn had sparked the devastating London Riots.
