Case study summary
Our client was accused of rape following an encounter with a woman 6 years before. After putting forward a detailed prepared statement and engaging with the police, they decided to take no further action.
Case study
Our client was a young man with no previous convictions or involvement with the police whatsoever. He engaged in a consensual sexual encounter with a woman in 2016 and was hauled in for an interview with the police 6 years later. He understood the severity of the allegation against him and instructed Mary Monson Solicitors to represent him at the interview.
Our specialist sexual offences solicitors handled the case and represented him at that interview. Detailed instructions were taken from the client and put forward in an analytical and structured way at the start of the interview. This outlined his version of events and, most importantly, his defence. We identified crucial holes in the complainant's statement and told the police to investigate further.
Following a further 2 years of investigation by the police which involved conversations with us about the prospect of success, if the case were to proceed to court, they decided to take no further action.
This young man can finally move forward with his life without a serious conviction tarnishing his name.
