Case study summary

Our client was accused of encouraging a 14-year-old child to engage in sexual activity by asking her to go into the toilet with him at a family party. We provided our expert legal advice during the police interview and the investigation was discontinued one week later.

Case study

Our client was a father and part-time football coach. At a family party he was accused of telling a 14-year-old girl to go into the toilet with him for the purposes of engaging in sexual activity.

The complainant had told the police that our client would make head movements towards the toilet and tell her to go into the toilet with him because no one would know what they were up to.

Our client contacted our firm and asked us to represent him at his police interview. Prior to the interview, one of our expert defence lawyers discussed the evidence with the police officer. The officer confirmed that there were no witness statements to support the allegation which had been made.

Our client denied the allegation and we provided our expert legal advice for the interview.

Following the interview, the police put precautions in place which prevented our client from seeing his children unless supervised and he was suspended from being a football coach. This had a devastating effect on his life.

As a result of the legal advice we provided to our client during the police interview, the case was dropped after one week. Our client was relieved to be able to return to his passion of coaching football to young children.
