Case study

Our client was an 18-year-old male who had recently completed college. The police were informed that a Snapchat account had uploaded an indecent image of a child which was said to be a category A image - the highest category for indecent images of children. The Snapchat account was linked to the client via the IP address which was traced to his home. On arrest, he had also told the police he was the one who created the account.

Prior to the police interview, one of our expert lawyers asked the officer questions to determine the strength of the case. From this, the lawyer was able to determine that the police had not been able to access the indecent image of a child and they did not know where the image had allegedly been uploaded to.

Our client denied the allegation. He explained that he had created the Snapchat account for the purposes of viewing nude images of adults only. He had no knowledge of an indecent image of a child being linked to the account and he confirmed that he did not have a sexual interest in children.

Having assessed the pre-interview disclosure and our client's instructions, the lawyer was able to provide our client with their advice for how to approach the interview. He accepted and followed this advice which resulted in the police taking no further action against him.

Our client was relieved that he was able to continue with his life and the search for his first full-time job.
