Our client is the former FD of collapsed bakery chain Patisserie Valerie which went into administration in 2019. Share trading was suspended with a loss to shareholders of £450m. This is the biggest false accounting conspiracy in the modern era. The scandal was a major blow to pension funds, and affected the worldwide standing of auditors Grant Thornton. Celebrity CEO and Sunday Times business columnist Luke Johnson distanced himself from the collapse, and has avoided charge.
