Case study summary

Our client met a woman from a dating site and they had sexual intercourse. When he told her that he had concerns about having an STD a couple of weeks later, she accused him of rape. He followed our expert advice during a police interview and the police took no further action.

Case study

Our client had just completed a Masters degree in business at university. He was a member of a dating site and began talking to a woman in December 2021. They communicated via Whatsapp for over two months until they eventually decided to meet in-person on the 18th of February 2022. Our client collected the woman from her home address and they went to his apartment.

They watched films together and had consensual sexual intercourse. The following week, our client informed the woman that he had been tested for sexually transmitted diseases because he suspected that he might have chlamydia. He encouraged her to also go to the doctor's for a test.

She responded by saying that she was going to report him to the police for rape. Our client was arrested and on the day of his arrest he received a text to confirm that he did not have chlamydia.

We reviewed the WhatsApp messages between the complainant and our client. The complainant did not make a complaint to the police until several weeks after the alleged rape occurred. During this time, she sent messages to our client telling him that she loved him and planned to see him again.

Based on this evidence one of our expert sexual assault solicitors advised our client on how to proceed with the police interview. The case was dropped eight weeks later due to a lack of evidence.

Our client is now able to move on with his life and begin his new career in business.
