Case study summary

Our client was referred to us after he was charged with possession of cocaine. Even though the amount found was significant, we were able to secure the lowest possible sentence and ensure he avoided custody.

Case study

Our client was arrested in Manchester for possession of crack cocaine, a Class A Drug. The police had searched him and found 18 wraps of crack cocaine in his pockets and rucksack.

Our client admitted this amount was for personal use and that he had a history of drug abuse. However, had a strong desire to gain employment and regretted his behaviour. Our client was a family man, with his two young children in the forefront of his mind throughout court proceedings and driving his desire to make a change in his life.

Due to the nature of the allegations and the quantity of the Class A drug found, a custodial sentence was a real possibility. We represented our client at his court appearance at the Magistrates' court and one of our lawyers mitigated on his behalf, successfully persuading the magistrates' court to move away from the option of a custodial sentence, instead convincing them to impose a 12-month community order.

Our client was extremely pleased with the result and was now in a position to address his drug abuse and focus on his family.
