Case study summary

Our client was the director of a construction company. A dispute had arisen at work, and he was accused of assault when he was in fact the peacemaker. We represented him for his police interview and following our advice and strategy, the investigation was closed without charge.

Case study

We were contacted by our client, following a dispute which had arisen in the workplace environment. He was a business owner who ran his own successful construction company and had never been in trouble before.

The dispute had started from a dispute over payment between sub-contractors. Our client had attempted to try and sort out the dispute, but was then accused of assaulting one of the sub-contractors.

He was asked to attend a voluntary interview at the police station, at which point he contacted us for some general advice on his legal rights and options. Following this discussion, he confirmed he wanted us represent him in interview and the investigation stage.

We obtained as much information as possible from the investigating police officer before the interview started. We then took detailed instructions from our client and drafted a prepared statement which was read out at the beginning of the interview.

Based this statement which carefully set out his version of events, the police confirmed that No Further Action would be taken and the investigation was closed. Our client was very relieved as the allegations would have disrupted his work and business if the case had gone to court.
