Case study summary

Our client was a woman who had been abused by her long-term partner. He was also manipulating the police against her. We convinced the police to drop the allegations against her and properly treat her as the alleged victim, as opposed to the offender.

Case study

Our client was a young mother who was in a long-term relationship. It was clear that our client had been the victim of physical, emotional and financial abuse from her partner.

Following an argument, our client decided to, for the first time, defend herself against her partner. He then called the police and tried to convince her that the police would only believe him. Our client was then represented by our specialist criminal defence lawyers.

Our client had substantial injuries, whereas her partner had two small scratches. It was clear that our client had scratched her partner while trying to defend herself.

Our lawyers, during interview, convinced the police that they had the case the wrong way around. The police agreed to take no further action against our client on the very same day. Instead, they referred our client to safeguarding services and arranged for her to give a proper statement, as a complainant, to officers.

Our client is now getting the support she needs to end her abusive relationship.
