Our client was a man in his early twenties who had been asked to attend an interview by the police. He was being accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. This is also known as a ‘Section 18’ assault. The client had been accused of walking up to another man and stabbing him twice in the leg and once in the hand, causing significant blood loss.

This was a serious allegation, so the client contacted our specialist criminal lawyers to represent him during the police station interview.

Our lawyers were able to speak to officers before the interview. They analysed the situation and concluded that the police did not have enough evidence for the client to be charged with this offence. All the police had was information from an anonymous source suggesting our client was involved. They did not have any CCTV, they had no witness statements, and the injured man was not engaging.

If our client were to put forward any account at all, we would have been giving the police information that they did not have. We advised the client to say no comment during the interview. This left the police with no choice but to drop the case.
