Case study summary

Our client was invited to attend a voluntary interview in relation to allegations of common assault and criminal damage, whilst at a football game. We represented the client in interview and persuaded the police to deal with the matter by way of restorative justice.

Case study

Our client accepted that he had been verbally abusive towards a steward and after being ejected from the stadium and that he caused damage to two vehicles.

We attended the interview and advanced a prepared statement on the clients behalf, accepting the allegations and highlighting his remorse in an attempt to resolve the matter out of court.

Our client was of good character and a conviction would have been detrimental to his future.

As a result of our advice and the statement put forward in interview, the police took no further action for the assault against the steward and dealt with the criminal damage by way of a small fine. The police were also persuaded against applying for a football banning order.
