Case study
Our client was a 68-year-old man. In November 2022, he was accused of conspiring with others to supply a fake prescription drug called Etizolam as well as money laundering between 2020 and 2022. The police said that large amounts of Etizolam tablets were being produced and supplied in Manchester and they believed that they could link our client to the offences through telephone call data and CCTV.
Our client was arrested and requested us at the police station. He feared being sent to prison due to the seriousness of the allegation. The had police seized numerous bundles of cash from his home as well as ten mobile phones, including phones which the police believed to be 'burner' phones - a phone which is easily disposed of and often linked to drug dealing. He also had relevant previous convictions.
Our client denied the allegation. He explained that the nature of his work required him to have multiple phones so that he could keep his personal and work lives separate and the cash which had been seized was legitimate.
One of our expert criminal lawyers attended the police station and provided our client with advice for the interview. Following the interview, the police confirmed that they would be taking no further action against him. Our client was relieved and looked forward to enjoying retirement.
