Case study summary

Our client was asked to attend a police interview after an allegation of assault had been made against him. We advised and represented him for the investigation process which concluded very quickly in a decision to formally close the investigation with no charge.

Case study

Our client was professional man who was accused of Assault by beating contrary to s.39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988. He was asked to attend an interview at the police station and had no idea what this was about. He had never been in a situation like this and contacted our office for some initial advice and guidance.

He decided to instruct us to represent him and we then contacted the police to rearrange the interview date so that we could attend with him to provide legal advice.

In the disclosure stage of the interview process, we pressed the investigating officer to get as much information as possible. A statement was then drafted on behalf of our client in response to the allegation and he did not need to answer any further questions after the statement had been read out in the formal interview process.

The police notified us three days later that the investigation had been closed. Our client had been incredibly anxious about the impact it could have on his work if he were to be charged and was very happy with swift outcome.
