Our client had recently moved in with his new partner and the relationship had quickly became volatile During one particularly volitile argument, things became physical. During the argument, our client’s partner phoned the police and claimed that our client had punched him in the neck and the stomach. Our client also phoned the police after locking himself in the bathroom, he reported that he had been punched and bitten by his partner.

The police quickly attended the address and both our client and his parent were arrested for assaulting one another.

Both our client and his partner made it clear to the police that, whilst the situation had become heated and needed calming down, they did not support the matter going any further.

Our specialist criminal lawyers attended the police station to represent our client. We analysed the situation and it was apparent that there was not sufficient evidence for our client to be charged. The client’s partner had not provided a statement against our client, there would be nothing for the prosecution to use against him in court. There was also no evidence of any injuries or any CCTV evidence. In this situation, the correct tactical decision was for the client to say no comment. As the case against the client was weak and unlikely to result in a charge, it was not in our client's interest to provide the police with any information.

The client was released shortly after his interview and the police dropped the case that day. Our client has since ended his relationship with his former partner and is focusing on rebuilding his life.
