Our client was a working man with no previous convictions. He was shocked when the police asked him to attend a police interview and accused him of handling stolen goods. Our client was worried that this could affect his work and instructed our specialist criminal defence lawyers to represent him.

The police had been conducting an investigation into the theft of bikes and another man accused of this offence stated that bikes were being stored in our client’s storage unit. Our client was confused. He did not have, and had never had, a storage unit and could not understand why he was being brought into this investigation.

The police had no evidence that our client had a storage unit and what had been said was clearly nonsense.

We worked with our client to write a prepared statement which was read out during the interview. This ensured that our client’s defence was properly put forward without exposing our client to potentially intimidating police questions.

The police dropped the case quickly, without even referring the matter to the Crown Prosecution Service for a charging decision. Our client was very relieved that this case had concluded so fast and that his employment had not been effected.
