Case study

Our client was a 13-year-old girl who was accused of assaulting another student at school by dragging her to the floor and punching her. The incident was recorded on CCTV.

Due to our client's age, her family members contacted us on her behalf and asked us to represent her at her upcoming police interview. They were concerned about their family member obtaining a criminal record at such a young age. During our conference with the client, she admitted the allegation. She explained that the complainant had been bullying her and making offensive comments about her appearance. Our client reacted by assaulting her but she realised that this was not the right thing to do and she was sorry for her actions.

One of our expert defence lawyers spoke to the police in order to ensure that the matter would resolve as soon as possible because this was in the best interests of both children. We were able to persuade the police to accept a letter of apology from our client and the case was then closed.
