Case study summary
Our specialist solicitors prepared a substantial mitigation package for a client who was convicted of stealing £20,000 from their employer over a two-year period. We successfully persuaded a judge who was minded to send our client to prison to grant a suspended sentence order.
Case study
Our client was a university-educated young man with no previous convictions and a young family to take care of. While working as a manager in a tourism company he noticed a loophole in the system that allowed him to defraud the company of £20,000 over a three-year period.
Our client was not a criminal by nature and the opportunistic theft reflected a person living beyond their means who became trapped in a vicious cycle.
We were able to show the court that the offending was isolated, that there was very real and genuine remorse and that an immediate custodial sentence was not in the interests of justice. We persuaded the sentencing judge that the sentence should be served in the community so our client could continue to work and provide for his family.
Our client came to court prepared for the worst but left with the best result he could have hoped for. All thanks to his hard work and our careful land thorough preparation.
