Case study summary

Our client pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation after defrauding her employer of over £11,000.

We were instructed to represent her at the Magistrates' Court and persuaded the Court to impose a £200 penalty with no compensation order.

Case study

Our client was a married woman who our firm represented at her first appearance at the Magistrates' Court. At this hearing she pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation after she admitted to having made false refunds using a number of bank cards totalling just over £11,000.

We were then instructed to represent her at the next Magistrates' Court hearing and put forward mitigation on her behalf. We instructed a trusted barrister to represent the client at this sentencing and carefully prepared our mitigation.

Our client had recently had a child with her husband and they were concerned about what the possible sentence could do to their family.

During the hearing, our mitigation was put to the Magistrates who were persuaded to impose a low fine of £200 and no compensation order.

The client was delighted with the result and was expecially relieved to be able to return home to her family without an excessive financial punishment and no prison time.
