Client accused of neglecting her children receives NFA

Our client was arrested for allegations of neglecting her children. The police claimed that they had found her home in a state of disarray and her son had an untreated eye infection.

This evidence was critically analysed and a prepared statement was served to correct the police.

Case study

We represented this client in relation to allegations of neglecting her children by having left her home in a state that was unsuitable for her children to live in and failing to assist her 15 year old son after developing an eye infection.

Police also claimed that our client had left her two sons alone in the house without adult supervision.

Our client was understandably distressed by these allegations. She explained that the house had not been in as bad a state as described by the police and that it had only reached that point over the last 24 hours because she had been at work. She also explained that her 20 year old daughter would have been in the property and the time when she was not there and her younger sons were not left alone.

In relation to the alleged eye infection, it transpired that this was an uninformed opinion made by one of the attending officers, who had no medical training.

A prepared statement was drafted based on our client's instructions arguing against the police case.

The police were left with no choice but to end their case less than 2 months later. Our client had never been involved with the police before and was especially distressed by the prospect of being accused of an offence relating to her care of her children. This result was extremely important for her and meant that she was able to return to her usual life without having to worry about any prosecution or investigation.
