Case study summary

Our client pleaded guilty to racially aggravated common assault. He admitted what he had done straight away. Following our instruction, we prepared his case fully and achieved the best result possible in a low level Community Order.

Case study

Our client was a mentally vulnerable man, with a history of alcohol and drug addiction. While suffering with these addictions, he assaulted and racially abused a taxi driver following a night drinking.

He was subsequently arrested and interviewed. He admitted what he had done straight away. When he instructed us, he was ashamed of what he had done and terrified of what lay ahead.

Thankfully, our specialist lawyers were on hand to thoroughly prepare and guide him through the process. Our approach was proactive, empathetic and non-judgmental. We quickly realised this offending was down to our client's chronic alcohol issues. Our lawyers thoroughly prepared his case and showed that he needed rehabilitative help, rather than excessive punishment.

We ensured our client attended an alcohol support group and obtained a written reference from this group. We sat down with him and took a note of how ashamed and sorry he was. The case ultimately concluded with our client being sentenced to an alcohol treatment order as opposed to a term in prison.

Our client was delighted to put this ordeal behind him and is now able to focus on getting the treatment he needs.
