Case study summary

In 2020 our client was accused of historic sexual assault on a child from 1995. He pleaded not guilty and was exonerated of both counts after a trial at Stoke Crown Court. This was the result of a lengthy investigation and diligent preparation to ensure the right result at court.

Case study

Our client had no previous convictions or involvement with the criminal justice system before he found himself accused of a heinous crime from 1995. He was accused of sexually assaulting a child. He understood that he needed specialist historic sexual offence solicitors as soon as he was charged.

We represented him throughout the entire ordeal and three years later his case was finally heard at court. We left no stone unturned and were not afraid of raising difficult issues and completing our own enquiries. It is imperative that in these cases, the prosecution are reminded that however old an allegation might be, they must still prove it beyond all reasonable doubt.

We instructed a specialist barrister to represent our client at court. Following our client giving evidence in his own defence, the jury found him not guilty of both counts.

This means that our client is able to resume his life with no convictions on his record.
