Case study
Our client was a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren. In January 2023, his life was turned upside down when he was informed that six of his grandchildren had made allegations of sexual assault against him. Our client was shocked by this and devastated that social services decided to stop him from seeing his grandchildren as a result.
Our client contacted us and asked that we represent him at the police interview. During initial consultations with him, he explained that he believed his daughter's former partner was behind the allegations. Our client suspected that his daughter's former partner and his eldest granddaughter were having an inappropriate relationship after he had caught them kissing. He told his daughter's former partner that he was going to tell the rest of their family about what he saw but his daughter's former partner threatened to ruin his life. Our client was then contacted by the police who informed him that his grandchildren had made serious sexual assault allegations against him.
During the police interview, we obtained pre-interview disclosure from the police officer. One of our expert sexual assault lawyers challenged the evidence and was able to extract the fact that one of our client's grandchildren had said that it was his father who had told him and his siblings to make false allegations against their grandfather. The police had also spoken to the children's mother who confirmed that she suspected her former partner and eldest daughter were having an inappropriate relationship. We then provided our advice for the interview and the police confirmed that the investigation would be discontinued.
Our client was relieved and looked forward to seeing his grandchildren again.
