Case study summary

Our client was accused of viewing indecent images. He was asked to attend a police interview and asked us to represent him during the investigation stage. Based on our advice and tactical decisions, the investigation was dropped in just over 3 months with no further action.

Case study

Our client was a professional man involved in property development and had never been in trouble with the police before.

Police attended his address and his electronic devices were seized and he was asked to attend a voluntary interview at a later date. He was accused of Possession of Indecent Images contrary to s.160 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, and contacted our office to speak to one of our specialist lawyers.

We were instructed to represent him, at which point the investigating officer was quickly contacted, and a date for the voluntary interview was fixed. We requested as much disclosure as possible from the police. Based on the information we were provided with, we then advised our client carefully about the interview process and the approach to take.

The advice also continued after the interview regarding next steps and ongoing discussions with the police. Based on this advice and the decisions made, the police confirmed that the investigation was being dropped with no further action taken against our client, and he was able to keep his clean record and avoid the costs and stress of having to go to court.
