Case study summary

We represented a young man who faced an allegation of rape, alleged to have happened several years ago whilst he was at University. We advised and guided him through the entire police interview and investigation process. The police later closed the case with No Further Action.

Case study

Our client was a young man who had never had any experience with the police. They had attempted to contact him at his family's address but he was away at the time. The family quickly contacted our firm and we established contact with the police straight away to ensure that all further contact took place through us and make arrangements for a voluntary interview to take place.

We found out that an allegation of historic rape had been made and requested more information from the police about the detail of the allegations, so that we could fully advise our client. Once this information had been obtained, we went through this in detail with him and took a full background history. We then drafted a carefully prepared statement setting out the full history of the relationship he had with the complainant and information that would help demonstrate the allegations were false.

After attending the police station with him and guiding him through the process, we remained in regular contact with the police to keep updated on the situation. The police eventually confirmed that No Further Action would be taken against our client and the investigation formally closed.

Our client was able to have a huge weight of anxiety and stress removed from him shoulders and continue with his life.
