Case study summary
Our client was a registered foreign lawyer who had been accused of assault. Being charged with the offence of assault would have been disastrous for his career. We negotiated with the police and they agreed to a restorative justice outcome.
Case study
We were approached by a foreign lawyer who was looking to build a career in the UK. After his arrival in the UK, and whilst struggling with mental health due to difficult personal circumstances, he got into an altercation with an elderly gentleman. This had become physical, and our client was accused of pushing him.
He knew that being charged with this offence would end his chances of having a viable career in the UK. Therefore, he instructed our specialist criminal defence lawyers to act on his behalf.
We negotiated with the police and explained the sensitivities and complexities of the case. We convinced them that the appropriate course of action would be for the parties to apologise to each other. We were able to reach this conclusion without our client even attending a police interview.
Our client was very relieved that this matter had been dealt with so quickly and is now able to continue to build his life in the UK without the fear of criminal prosecution.
