Our client was a university student who had been charged with rape and sexual assault after two of his former friends had made allegations against him. He had promising career prospects and had never been involved with the criminal justice system before.

He came to our firm after he was charged but had denied committing the offences during his original interviews with the police, explaining that both of the occasions in question were completely consensual.

When we examined the evidence, it became clear that both of the complainants had given different accounts to each person they had told about the incidents. This then became our main focus as, in contrast, our client's account had remained consistent throughout. We requested further evidence from the prosecution and found even more discrepancies in what both women had first said to the police, compared to what they had said in their formal statements.

We then instructed an expert sexual offences barrister to represent our client at his trial and to ensure that these discrepancies were put to each complainant. Having heard all of the evidence in the case, the jury returned verdicts of not guilty on all counts.

Our client was able to walk away from this terrible ordeal with his good character intact and a promising future ahead of him.
