Case study summary

Our client worked in a home for vulnerable young people. She was interviewed by police after an allegation of assault was made against her. We represented and advised her at the police station, and the police later confirmed no further action would be taken against her.

Case study

Our client was a support worker in a home for vulnerable young people. Following an incident in her workplace, she was contacted by the police regarding an allegation of assault that had been made against her.

She had never been in a situation like this before and contacted our firm for initial advice. We contacted the police and arranged a time and date for her interview to take place. Prior to the interview starting, we obtained as much information as possible from the police to establish what evidence they had to support the allegation.

The police were trying to get her to accept a caution but this required an admission of guilt. Based on her instructions, our client was not guilty of any offence and so we advised against accepting the caution, as this would have affected her ability to work. Instead, we drafted a prepared statement setting out what had happened based on her version of events, which was then read out in interview.

The police later confirmed that no further action would be taken and our client was able to keep her clean record and stay working in her role.
