We were contacted by a father of two after he was asked to attend a police interview in relation to an allegation of sexual touching. He was terrified as being accused of this offence placed his whole family life at risk.

A former family friend’s child had made the allegation. The child was currently 17-years-old, and alleged that she was sexually touched by our client when she was 7-years-old. She stated that she did not see our client for years but then remembered that she was assaulted by him, when she was a child, after seeing him at a party.

However, the client’s family photographs showed that he had seen the complainant many times over the years, something that she had not told the police. The photographs also showed that she had been interacting with our client very happily at the party which did not with her account. The complainant’s version of events had also changed multiple times, and she had been influenced by others, calling the reliability of her memory into question.

Our specialist criminal defence lawyers represented the client in the interview and served a prepared statement stating that he was not guilty of the offences. We followed this up with a detailed letter of representation and a selection of supporting photographs. We left the police with no choice but to drop the case without even referring it to the Crown Prosecution Service for a charging decision.
