We were instructed to represent a client in a voluntary interview for an allegation of sexual assault of a child. One month after the interview, the police informed that they would be taking no further action.

Our client contacted us to represent him at a voluntary interview under caution, after a referral was made to social services that he had sexually assaulted his former partner's eight year-old son.

We spoke with the client ahead of the interview and he was shocked and upset by the allegations. He informed that he did not commit the alleged offence.

We attended the interview and in disclosure, the investigating officer explained that a report had been made to social services that our client had sexually assaulted his step-son. We reviewed the police disclosure presented by the police and found that there was nothing to support the allegations.

We advised our client on the weakness of the police case and supported him through the interview procedure.

Following the interview, the police concluded that they did not have sufficient evidence to continue with the matter. One month after the interview, we were able to inform the client that the police would not be taking any further action in his case.
