Case study summary

Our client, who was accused of rape, instructed us to represent him in the police station interview. One of our expert criminal defence lawyers attended and ultimately, the police had no choice but to take no further action against our client.

Case study

Our client was arrested after an allegation of rape was made against him. As this was an extremely serious offence, our client was terrified of what might happen and chose our specialist lawyers to act for him during his interview. He was understandably nervous and unaware of the process of police station interviews.

Our expert criminal defence lawyer took instructions from the client and made the decision that it was in the best interest of the client to draft a prepared statement for the interview.

The allegations of rape were made by our client's former partner who stated that, during their relationship, there were multiple occasions where our client had penetrated her anus whilst sleeping so she believed she was incapable of consent. She also alleged that there was a further accusation where, during sexual intercourse, she asked our client to stop and he refused.

We submitted a prepared statement which enabled our client to put across his denial in a clear and concise manner. Shortly after the interview, the police concluded the investigation and our client was released with no further action taken against him.
