Our client was a working man in Yorkshire who was wrongly accused of rape by his wife. The police failed to consider the wider facts or the behaviour of the accuser and, after pressure from our expert lawyers, decided they had no other option but to drop the case.

Our client came to us prior to his first interview with the police. He was understandably distressed, confused and scared by the situation since it was not something he had anticipated. He had never been involved with the police before and was blindsided by such a serious allegation from his wife.

Our specialist lawyers recognised this and were able to offer advice and information about the process so that our client could understand what would happen at each stage and what our approach would be going forward. This included taking a detailed account of the situation and representing him during the interview.

In the interview, we advised our client to answer no comment to all questions to prevent the police being able to use aggressive tactics to implicate him.

Despite requests made by police that our client cease all communication with his wife, she continued to contact him and the two went out together for activities like meals and walks with their dog. We immediately recognised that these were not the actions we would expect from someone making a genuine accusation of rape.

Additional evidence suggested that the police were putting pressure on our client's wife to continue with this investigation despite the fact she was clearly no longer interested in this.

We remained in constant contact with both our client and the officers responsible for the investigation. We put together a document which highlighted the flaws in their case and eventually the police discontinued their investigation. Our client was able to move on with his life and leave this unpleasant chapter behind.
